You might not know this but stanford-le-hope is a village, its situated within the county of Essex. London lies twenty-five miles to the west and Southend is fifteen miles eastward.
So how did Stanford-Le-Hope get its name?
Well the word Stanford has been recognized as saxon (saxon word meaning the 'stone ford'). A bridge crosses the small rivulet (the stream) on the site of the ancient 'stone ford'.
The rivulet is called The Hope.
